Musée Yves Saint Laurent Is A Must!
February 01, 2018On (what we thought) was our last day in Paris, Alex and I decided to visit the Yves Saint Laurent museum. I wanted to go so badly before we left, but on the way there I was reading the reviews online and was in two minds about it. We decided to just go as we'd done everything else we'd wanted to do, and I am SO glad we did. Admittedly, I do feel bad for Alex getting dragged along to various exhibitions and galleries with me!
We went early afternoon on a Sunday and must have waited ten minutes maximum in the queue - I was expecting a lot longer following the TripAdvisor reviews. The inside of the building was just as picturesque as the outside! It was only €10, so definitely worth it in my opinion!
The first room had a cabinet full of sketches, fabric samples and accessories to accompany the outfits. It was truly inspiring to see his designs come to life just along the hall and pictures in the cabinet of women wearing them. They are so glamorous and elegant with so much detail embedded in every garment.
The next room was honestly my favourite one: it was full of notepads, books, sketches, fabrics and different components. You couldn't look closely at all of it as there was an alarm so you couldn't go too close, which of course I managed to set off without even realising. The entire room was just oozing inspiration and the dreams of a designer. It was just awe-inspiring to see an dream become a reality, making him into one of the most successful designers there has been.
The detail in the designs was just amazing to see. Some of the garments were just covered in beautiful embroidered detail, and I just cannot even imagine how long it would have taken to produce. Throughout the museum was every sort of element there could be to an outfit, from beading to broaches, and jacquard fabrics to jewellery.
Afterwards I honestly just felt so inspired to make my dreams a reality, as cheesy as it sounds. I have a lot of career aspirations and after visiting the museum and seeing the amount of ideas and hard work that must have gone into the career of YSL to make him as successful as he was, it just reminded me of what it is I want to achieve.
I definitely recommend a trip here if you're in Paris, please ignore the majority of TripAdvisor reviews!
Have you visited here, or will you if you go to Paris?
